A large silver gong, used to summon people, stands just to the right of the kitchen door.

This gong is a rather large, circular object, which sends out a tremendous sound when it is hit and vibrates.  The gong is used for many reasons, some of which include, informing people there is a meeting or that food is ready, notifying that the hour of silence has started or instructing people that an Atlantean has either been born or has died.
