Rules

PhoenixMUD policies

Since we have had so many problems with people who think that they do not have to follow the rules just because their specific situation is not laid out here, this preamble will serve as a warning. These policies are, in most cases, very generic. Just because you do not see your exact situation here does not mean that it is not against the rules. If you *think* something may be against the rules, it probably is.

  1. You may NOT PLAYER KILL in any way, shape, or form. Using charmed or aggressive mobs to somehow attack or kill another player will be treated as player killing and will be dealt with harshly. This can be punished with freezer time all the way up to and including deletion. It is illegal and will not be tolerated for any reason.
  2. You may NOT PLAYER STEAL in any way, shape, or form. If you do so You will be hunted down and killed and your equipment given away to other players for their enjoyment. This includes looting other player's corpses AND STEALING KILLS FROM OTHER PLAYERS--if a player is in a room with a mob you may safely assume he intends to attack said mob and may not attack it yourself without asking permission. This does not apply if a player is idling in the room and will not reply to your requests--the mob will then be fair game.
  3. Please refrain from cursing (using foul language) on the public channels such as gossip, shout, and yell. It demeans you, offends people, and makes the mud look bad. If this behavior continues you WILL be fined, may lose the ability to use these channels, or in extreme circumstances be deleted from the mud. This rule has been extended to include conversations which others may find racist, sexist, or otherwise harassing. Also, be sure to use the proper channels for your communications. You WILL be fined for consistently using the wrong channels.
  4. Harassment of other players IN ANY FORM is not allowed. This includes even *looking* at them if they ask you not to. Harassers, whether mortal or immortal, will be deleted if they continue their actions after a first warning. If you are being harassed report it to an implementor who will warn the harasser. This is an extremely serious situation and will NOT be taken lightly. PhoenixMUD is a mud for mature players. If you cannot handle the responsibility of being mature you WILL be forced to leave.
  5. You are NOT permitted to create new characters for any reason other than to play them. Creating multiple characters while below level 20 is frowned upon, but not against the rules. If you create multiple characters with no use you will be prevented from doing so in the future.
  6. Multi-playing is allowed BUT there is a limit of 2 characters on at one time per person. If you have more than 2 on at a time one of the characters will be purged at random until you reach the 2 character limit. If you are in a situation where you have multiple people sharing a connection where all traffic appears to come from one site (i.e. a proxy server like Wingate) it would be a wise idea to let a god know so you will not be accidentally purged.
    1. 6.1 The 2 character limit does not allow you to log in 2 characters, drop link on one, and then bring in a third. You will be purged and possibly deleted if caught doing this.
  7. You may not give away a character to another person nor may you accept such a character. Any character found to be used by persons other than the creator will be purged and deleted.
    1. 7.1 You may not share characters among different players. Your character is your own. Shared characters will be purged and deleted upon discovery. You are responsible for any and all actions done with your character, whether or not it is really you using them. For those who can't take the hint--KEEP YOUR PASSWORDS SECURE AND SECRET!
  8. Camping/Hoarding. Each character is allowed to carry 100 pieces of equipment on his or her person and store 25 pieces of equipment per room in his or her house. Abusing bugs to camp with more than 100 items will be dealt with very harshly, this includes dropping link. Obviously this does not apply to coming back into the game immediately after a crash. If you think you have a poor connection and may lose link and not be able to reconnect, DONT CARRY MORE THAN 100 ITEMS.
    1. 8.1 Storage characters for gold, eq, gating, or any other reason are not permitted. Any obvious storage character which is discovered by an immortal will be deleted immediately.
  9. Reimbursements for gold, eq, or levels will NOT be given out for most "normal" reasons (junking your corpse, loss of corpse, mobs looting your corpse, etc.) Reimbs MAY be given for serious problems like implementor error or code bugs. NO reimbursements will be made if players are whiny and demand them.
  10. All character names must adhere to the name policy. If a god feels your name is inappropriate you will have to change it. A god will not ask you to change your name after level 1 without making reasonable amends to get you back to your previous level.
  11. Active advertising of other muds either in search of players or immortals is absolutely prohibited and punishable by immediate deletion.
  12. What the Gods decide in any matter is final and is not subject to negotiation. You may not appeal a god's decision to any other god than an H-Imp. Should you choose to appeal you must tell the H-Imp of the original god's decision. Failure to do so may result in deletion. Asking any other immortal or god to do something a higher or equal level immortal has already said no to WILL result in deletion. For those who don't understand: Do not ask dad for something when mom has already said no and dad does not know that.
  13. Creating a character for another player who cannot create because of a banned site is grounds for deletion of all of the creator's characters. Sites are banned for a reason--which is generally to prevent the creation of new characters. Even if a player is allowed one character, that doesn't mean that he or she is allowed additional characters. All such requests must be made through an Implementor.
  14. All players are obligated to report any bugs or anything that seems "funny" or out-of-sorts. This includes anything that allows players to get extra gold or equipment or experience in addition to that normally available. Anyone found exploiting bugs will be dealt with individually. The consequences are up to the god dealing with the situation and may include deletion and banning. High level gods have been deleted and banned for abusing bugs. If you *think* something may be a bug, it probably is.
  15. Players are subject to having all of their activities on this game monitored and recorded by mud staff members. In the course of monitoring players improperly using the game, or in the course of game maintenance, the activities of players may be monitored at the keystroke level. Anyone playing this game expressly consents to such monitoring and is advised that if such monitoring reveals possible inappropriate activity, such evidence will be used for disciplinary action, which may include deletion of the player in question.
  16. Shilling (the act of bidding on your own auctions with your multis or throw-away characters without the intention of actually buying the item) is strictly ILLEGAL and will result in a 5k fine AND the loss of the item. It's illegal in real life, so don't think it's not here.
  17. Botting, the act of using triggers to automate tasks while away from the keyboard. This is illegal and punishable if sufficient evidence exists. If you think someone is botting, start logging, once you are logging you should try to get a response out of them by using say or tells. If no response is given, save the log and inform an imm, preferably Ceria or Lucas. Do not by any means try to deal with them yourselves, your best option is to log the encounter and give the log to an imm for investigation.
  18. Punishments for actions stated here can be anywhere from freezer time to deletion. We have final say on what punishment is given for any action whether or not one is listed here. If you don't think that the punishment is fair or you think that it is too harsh, too bad. We come up with punishment on a case by case basis using information that might not always be known to you. In other words don't stick your nose into something that is none of your business.
  19. Staying logged in while AFK for hours. If you're going to be away, or think you MAY be away for hours, then camp. There's no reason to stay here and idle, especially overnight. Only BAD things can happen to your character.

These are the rules set out to date. Just because something is not here does not mean that it is not against the rules. Use your best judgement, although a select few seem to have no judgement. Mudding is a privilege, NOT a right. This game is run by a select few people who have the power to prevent you from returning to the game. It would be highly advisable not to piss them off.
