Reading Rooms Any and every noun or object in a room can potentially have a description that might help or hinder your search for knowledge. Some can be clues, some can be warnings. As you progress in levels, thoroughly reading the room descrip- tions becomes more and more important and things are purposely hidden. Don't forget to exam objects as well as look them, you never know what they might hold.
look seven
Scan and Direction You have the ability to scan your surroundings which tells you what creatures people are near you. This often comes in handy when those creatures are the type that would attack you. Use common sense, would you walk into a room with what appears to be a hungry lion or would you be cautious? You also have the ability to <look direction> as in <look west>. Sometimes, a magical message will appear like "would you want to enter certain death?" It's a good idea to look at all the directions and scan a few times when you're exploring and will save you a lot of anguish over lost equipment.
look six
Help Files The help files are numerous and you would be well advised to refer to them often. Probably the best way is to type <index> to find what you wish to see. Some are very complex, some are very simple but they are all informative.
look five
Camping There is free rental here but that occurs when you type <camp> in an outdoors or special indoors camping room. Normally, all you left with will be in the wear position or inventory just as you remembered it. If you quit or quit! as some Multi-User dungeons allow, you drop your equipment. Be sure to save often to retain new items you've found and when it's really special, use <save reimb> so in case there is ever a glitch in the renting system, the Gods can fix you.
look four
Death Death is not the end of the world for you and the Gods have granted you may return. Try and remember where you were though and retrace your steps back to the place you died. If you're fast enough, your corpse with all of its goodies will still be intact. Other players are not allowed to steal your items but some of the sneaky mobs do like to filch things. Whenever you battle, you have consider death is an option and how do you get back. Having a few friends is always a good idea for when you need help. When you return to your corpse, <get all corpse> and <wear all> then find a safe place to sort it all out.
look three
Leveling To level or to practice you must visit your GuildMaster but there are words of caution you need to heed. Most veteran players will tell you to keep two con- tainers of equipment, one for leveling equipment which boost your basic stats and another for equipment to fight with that raise your ability to damage, hit or cast spells. Use either the <identify> spell or scrolls of identify often to set your abilities as high as you can for the task you intend.
look two
Stats Your stats are basically the abilities you gave yourself by dividing creation points between Strength, Wisdom, Intelligence, Dexterity, Constitution and Charisma when you created. You should remember those starting stats and build on the original values by identifying and choosing equipment to wear that improves those stats. The higher you make each stat, the better you are and for some, the more magical power (mana) or hitpoints (durability) you gain when you level. Some relate to fight power and some to the ability to practice or buy things.
look one
<Consider mob name> Arguably one of the most useful commands you have, this allows you to see how your level and amount of hitpoints remaining stacks up against your potential victim. Use it often and heed the advice until your ability to damage and your exper- ience says it's being false. If you decide to take the chance and fight, you can preset your <wimpy> to a portion of your maximum hitpoints and automatically flee when you get that low, or you can decide to <flee> at any time.
