Although the design and clasp would seem to indicate an animal's collar, this piece is extremely large.  In fact, it would probably fit loosely around most human's heads.  The collar is crafted with a small locket that hangs to one side of the clasp.  The locket is shaped like a small heart and it is obvious that whatever creature wore this was a favored pet to someone. Although it looks like the locket can be opened, it is too small to carry anything larger than a single coin.
