Rather heavy, especially for flatware, and ornately crafted, it seems probable that this knife is made from solid silver.  The metal has begun to tarnish slightly; however, that does not detract from the masterful craftsmanship and detailed design etched into the handle of the knife.  The teeth of the blade are barely visible and it appears that this knife was designed for soft foods, such as cheese or butter, and certainly could not handle anything as tough as meat.
