Except for the wood used to build them, these shelves appear to be an actual part of the stone wall behind them.  The unit stretches from floor to ceiling and from corner to corner, such that the wall is only visible looking past the shelves through the glass doors.  Some of the panes have been cracked and the thick layers of dust make it obvious that this cabinet has been abandoned for a long time.
