A small book, faded and torn, has been discarded here.

Many of the pages have been torn.  The fading of the ink makes the passage
extremely difficult to read and the tears make them incomplete on top of that.
Out of all the pages, there only seems to be one text that remains nearly
intact.
It reads:

   I'm concerned about my mother.  She spends all of her time in her sitting
room staring out that empty, useless window.  We've spoken endlessly when I
visit her but she seems strangely resigned to the limitations of that room.  
Father spends time with her each day but he is becoming increasingly reclusive
in the library.  I think he's having trouble dealing with her illness.  
Dureaus is a fighter; he patrols the towers willing to protect us from any
external beast or monster but he seems inept at dealing with the emotional
impact mother's sickness has taken upon the entire family.  True though, his
patrols are extremely important, especially now.  Word from Wynnhavven is that
the assassin's guild has been paid to hit the manor.  We have had no enemies
and I cannot fathom why this would be so.  But jealousy is an evil thing and I
have faith in the man who brought word, so I must accept this as true though I
understand it not.  Tesavougn believes that she can create a protector for us.
She is a gifted child but I fear for her.  When she
