A crude stove against the eastern wall keeps the room quite warm.

Against the eastern wall, three vertical slabs of red rock hold a metal grate several feet above the floor of the kitchen.  The rock is evenly spaced supporting both ends and the middle of the ten foot cross thatched steel grating.  Burning in the space between the rocks, beneath the grate, a small oak fire and a larger cottonwood blaze provide different temperatures for cooking.  A large cauldron of water simmers on one end of the grate, while various cooking tools lay on the stove top beyond the reach of the searing flames.
