Small pentagonal shapes are filled with wax covered honey.  The size of this bit of honeycomb is large as compared to normal hive's, meaning the bees that used it were probably quite unusually large as well!  A taste of the honey inside, however, is sweeter than the finest sugar- making it a useful bit of food to keep around for those that prefer sweets.
