A rat scurries over your foot, making you jump.

The rat doesn't look particularly friendly, the sickly brownish fur moist with refuse and disease.  The beady black eyes are set deep in the head and show not a hint of intelligence behind them.  Times are always lean in Aethelfyrd, and anything that moves is food to him.
