the female Va'ruel

A female Va'ruel prepares for mating.

She is slightly red instead of the usual pale transparent color of most Va'ruel.  This means she is ready for mating and has been participating in the ritual that begins high above, in the dark waters, and ends here in this simple coral chamber.  Later the pair will venture to another chamber and, after she lays her eggs, he will fertilize them.
