It appears to be an animal, but it's black as night.
The only thing that can be seen are two glowing red eyes in a sea of blackness. There seems to be some type of fur extending from the body, though, and it is huge. Longer than the room, coiled, and ready to hit, it only awaits its next meal. Perhaps that's not fur, but either some type of lure to get its victim or a magical shield of some type, used to protect it from attack.
