A tortured ghoul sits on a hollow log and groans insanely.

The ghoul was clearly an elf in life, before being driven insane by some great tragedy.  Some vestige of its past life may remain, for it tries to thwart the evil of the Ebony Howler Monkey.  Alas, its brain is crazed, and it can no longer see that it too has become a thing of darkness!
