A small falcon stands sentinel in one of the forest trees.

The most distinguishing feature of the falcon is not it's pearl-gray feathers or sharp beak; it is the extraordinarily thick, large claws.  If ever a bird could match the grace and beauty of the Phoenix, it would be this. With a two foot wingspan and a perfectly sculpted beak, it pounces upon its prey swiftly and quietly killing instantly.
