a rotworm

A disgusting rotworm writhes through the quicksand.

Black, ropy veins pulsate beneath its thin skin, and its oversized maw is filled with long, needle-like teeth.  Carrying the nauseating stench from the decomposed corpses on which it feeds, this worm is not content to wait for a twist of fate to deliver its next repast.  It has been known to attack and kill live prey.
