the archmage, Phryxus

The archmage, Phryxus, stands here, grinning at you in a most unsettling way.

Phryxus is an elderly wizard, with a toothless smile and a thick pair of flying goggles.  No matter which way he faces, his visage remains in perpetual shadow.  Every now and then, his image seems to blink out, as if he is less than substantial.  That is because this Phryxus is not the real one, but a projected image.  Is it controlled by the real Phryxus?  If so, what powers does it have?  It certainly will not be susceptible to the same attacks as its master.
