a lava elemental

A lava elemental towers a dozen feet above you, dripping magma!

Believe it or not, this is just a small lava elemental.  The creature is a hulking, vaguely humanoid shaped blob.  Red magma drips down the body in thick rivulets.  Occasional popping noises splatter magma balls onto the surrounding walls.  As they cool, their inner fire dims, and they turn to hard black nuggets of basalt.
