a trail of wooly worms

Several fuzzy worms head westwards, crawling in single file.

About eight of the moth larvae follow their dark red, honey-colored leader, some darker than others, some multi-colored.  Fuzzy and striped, the fine hairs of their backs can turn a variation of black, brown, red or orange. The fact that their bodies are divided into thirteen segments poses a puzzling mystery.  Many people use Wooly Worms to detect the Winter's force, since there just happens to be thirteen weeks of winter.  The darker each segment is, the colder the weather.
