The spirit of an elderly man slips quietly through the room.

The telltale signs of the old man's un-living condition would be the lack of physical body.  The spirit still has some form and it is obvious that he was an elderly elf with a large forehead and thinning hair.  Considering the significant lifespan of the elves, he must truly have been well on in years before he died.  Even as a spirit, the old man appears to have an aura of magic and power surrounding him, which seems to come from a lifetime of familiarity with the mages craft.
