a screaming herring gull

A loud gull with a black head swoops down to take a closer look at you.

This is a common gull at coastal areas, as they revel in herrings - but will eat most everything thrown at them.  It's a fairly large, omnivorous bird with a sleek black head and a bright orange beak.  It measures no less than 6 feet at the wingspan, and can stay adrift for long periods of time.  It seems to stay close, perhaps expecting something.
