a swarm of gnats

A swarm of flying bugs fill the air.

Almost too small to be seen as individuals, this swarm darkens the air as a group of several hundred insects fly together in search of food.  The gnats will buzz around anything that moves, slowly biting and feeding off the poor, hapless creature.
