A deadly fer-de-lance snake hides behind the trunk of a lime tree.

With diamond-patterned brown scales and a heavy, triangular head, the fer-de-lance resembles a rattlesnake.  Far more aggressive and without a rattle to warn you however, it is greatly feared.  Some fer-de-lance are highly poisonous, while others, almost identical in looks, are not.
