a lone porpoise

A large porpoise floats lazily near the surface.

Its black skin is completely slick and oily, which allows the porpoise to move extremely quickly through the water.  There is no real nose or beak to speak of, which is one of the markings that most obviously separates it from a dolphin that would be very similar in appearance.
