a writhing larva

A bloated larva writhes in the mud.

Writhing in a patch of slime suspended upon the surface of the muddy water, some sort of larval creatures gorge themselves on the filth.  Having no developed eyes or ears, it appears these disgusting annelids have detected your presence by some other means.  They seem quite agitated at your sudden plunge into their pool.
