a herd of rats

A large herd of swamp rats wander under the watchful eye of their shepherd.

Throngs of large shaggy brown swamp rats move with ease among the exposed roots and thick thorny brush gleaning food where they may.  Some rats stop to gnaw on dead branches, grinding down there large yellowed front teeth. Hairless, scaly appearing tails leave a thin snake trail through the mud. There must be at least a hundred rats all moving as a herd through the swamp.
