The big brutish ogres are at the top of the slave chain here in the giant steading.  That means they get the biggest ammounts of food and are allowed to wander the steading at will.  It also means that they are subject to the wrath of their owners more often.  That fact has a way of making the ogre so angry he has to take it out on someone. Hey, you're someone.
