A mutated bear with the head of an owl and sharp talons paws the ground.

The race of owlbears was created when a deranged archmage experimented with joining of different types of animals.  One of the few results was the pairing of an owl and a bear which created a self-sustaining race of bear sized creatures.  These monsters have the beak and quick reflexes of an owl, merged with the strength and ferocity of a grizzly bear.  The result is a beast quick to kill and eat anything that gets in its way.
