Many stories circulate about yellow scorpions in the desert.  While it is known that their venomous sting is powerful enough to bring down animals much larger than itself and they often attack with no provocation, rumors tell of scorpions that have memories, and are cunning enough to launch ambushes.  It's even said that they keep treasures they find, and might even have a language and culture of sorts.  Well, if this one tries something, you may just have to squash it with your foot.
