A small wandering gnome stops here to rest.

Bent over with years of living underground, the old gnome looks very tired. He carries a walking stick, used to support his old and frail body.  His beard is nearly to the floor below when he stands, and as he sits down, he has to move it aside to prevent stepping on it.  Gnarled and nearly frozen with age, his fingers don't seem to be able to unlock from their grasp of that stick.
