The moat monster roars as it lunges toward you.

The moat monster is an amphibious beast, the size of a hippo, but shaped more like a bloated newt.  By unhinging its lower jaw, it can drop its mouth open so wide that it can swallow creatures almost as big as itself!  When attacking, it unleashes the most surprising buzzy roar, often stunning its prey long enough to wallow into battle.  Since the moat monster is not made of crystal, it is probably a recent arrival to the castle.
