These glasses seem odd because they do not have any pieces to attach them to the face.  Except for a small clamp on the bridge, which must attach to the wearer's nose, there is very little frame to the glasses at all.  Each lens is only half the normal size of glasses and the angle seems tilted downward, most likely for reading or writing.  These glasses are obviously specially designed and whoever had them made probably spent a lot of time in the library.
