The bell can be rung very loudly to call all locals to an assembly or meeting.  It is made of thick brass, which doesn't seem to have ever been polished.  The ring of the bell is a loud rattle and not pleasant at all. Most locals only attend the meetings so that the village caller will stop ringing this bell!
