This is a very unusual piece of armor.  It is a breastplate fashioned from the dried skins of giant toads.  Giant toads are fairly common creatures in the UnderDark.  They are frequently hunted by races such as the Quaggoth, who eat the meat and then fashion crude armor out of the skins, like this piece.
