the Master of the East Wind

The Master of the East Wind kneels here.

The Master of the East Wind meditates in a kneeling position, resting on
his calves.  Rather than point the toes backward, which might seem more
comfortable, he is up on the balls of his feet, a posture which permits him to
spring-stand at a moment's notice.
     A student asks him, "Master, should we seek victory in contention?"
     He replies simply, "Seek rather not to contend."
     "But then, shall we not be defeated?"
     "Where there is no contention there is neither victory nor defeat.  The supple willow does not contend against the storm, yet it thrives."
