A large snake with arms is guarding the shrine.

When stretched out to it's full length, the naga is about twelve feet long, however the snake-like being seldom stays in any but the half-erect state with the head about six feet off of the ground.  The naga has an almost human face, but the slanted eyes and forked tongue would give the creature away even if the rest of the body couldn't be seen.  The arms and hands are reptilian but have the strength and dexterity that most humans would envy.
